It's here! Today I'm finally launching my little business: of Alp & Ash.
I’ve been working on this for some time now and although I’m not launching with tons of products I’m starting small with some Christmas decorations whilst I finalise many of the other products I’ve been designing.
Laser cut loveliness
All my products are laser cut out of acrylic or wood. I've been fascinated by laser cutters since I first saw one, years ago now at some craft fair that I don't remember the name of. It was always in the back of my mind that I'd love to own one but I didn't think much of it again until years later when I designed my own laser etched iPhone case and outsourced it to a company with a cutter that could create it for me...
I loved the case and it made me realise that I had the computer skills to design, I just didn't have the tool to make the end product. So, with a bit of money to invest, and after several months of indecision, I decided to risk it and bought my very own machine!
Seeing my digital designs come to life as they're cut out of acrylic or wood is amazing; I can't imagine I'll ever get bored of it!
Starting a business
The next step was to launch a little business, using my laser cutter to make the creations.
I wanted to do everything... from learning a little calligraphy to create my logo (I ruined our tablecloth in the process), to learning a little coding to make my very own website (definitely would have been quicker to pay someone to do it but I'm proud of myself for learning), and taking all the product pictures myself (after waiting a week for the crappy British weather to lighten up I ended up taking images that will have me invest in a lightbox next time!)
I also had to decide on which products to launch with as I've been playing around with several ideas.
With Christmas on the horizon I decided to start with some lovely decorations for the tree: personalised baubles, sets of baubles & snowflakes and adorable angels (my personal favourite) with a choice of hairstyles and dress designs. You'll find them in my shop every Christmas...
Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my new venture, I really hope you like it, and if you do please share it with friends, family, colleagues... whoever! I'd really, really appreciate it :)
